My dad is one stubborn man. A lil' quirky at times too. lol. He leaves people really baffled at times.
Like this morning, I'd just switched on my laptop, and mum came knocking. My dad wanted me to bake with him.
'uh, of all times?' mumbled a lil' before logging off.
So I strode into the kitchen reluctantly.
'Hey come, Zhen, get the sieve... get the flour...'
I waited for instructions and asked some questions. cuz' i know Dad don't follow the instructions stated in the book. Do all chefs don't? He loves experimenting and when things go wrong, he tries to laugh it off. That sheepish smile, especially when Mum asks, 'See...why don't you ever follow instructions?'
Anyway, we made brownies. And when the mixture, short of eggs, was done, Dad insisted that it was too watery.
'It shouldn't be like this. I think it's wrong...'
'Uh Daddy, maybe you should try adding the eggs first...'
'No la, eggs will make it more watery...'
So Dad added more flour. Stirred. Mixture starts to thicken.
Few min later...
'OK. Can add the eggs now.'
Me (shrugs) I guess I would have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Afterall, he IS a chef. Haha. But this time round, I was right ;)
Adding the eggs thickened the mixture further. My obstinate Dad continued spreading the mixture over the mould.
In the mould went to the oven, and out it came.
'Wah, so hard ah...' .... 'Added too much flour le...'
(snick) 'Should've added the eggs first right?... Then if still too watery, then add flour right?..'
'Yeah~'
LOL.
And then he said, 'Come, let's make muffins...'
'HUH?...'

So we made muffins, and cookies too.

I thought I was working in a confectionery for a moment.
Anyway, some other stuff happened. But am too lazy to type more.
Point is, Mum tried the brownie, and proclaimed that it was TOO HARD.
And she tried to pit her brownies against Dad's.
'The last time I bake one better right? Not so hard, and a lil' moist inside right?'
My brother nodded in agreement.
'See,' she stared at my dad, 'Mine's better...' (smiles)
'Of coz' he'll say yours' better, if not, how to get his twenty bucks...'
He was talking about each member's twenty bucks to my brother's purchase of this eighty bucks shirt. SO EXPENSIVE.
Yups, I guess I have a pair of 'fairly odd parents'.
Many friends think they're interesting. I think they seem a bit queer at times. Hard to fathom.
But I guess I wouldn't want them any other way.
Haha.
